What is the material of my water service line?

Green Bay Water (GBW) is offering a map to provide residents and property owners with information regarding their water service lines. Water service lines are the pipes that carry water from the water main in the street into individual homes and buildings. In Green Bay, GBW is responsible for the portion of the service line from the water main to the curb stop (Utility Side). The individual property owner is responsible for the service line from the curb stop to the meter inside the building (Customer Side).

The addresses displayed on the map correspond to your utility bill. The information provided is based mainly on a combination of historical records and physical inspections performed by GBW. You can use the water service line map to see what service line information is available for your property. If you have additional information and wish to provide GBW with updated documentation or schedule an inspection, please call us at (920) 448-3480.

NON-LEAD. Properties labeled as "Non-Lead" have water service lines made from materials other than lead, such as copper, plastic, or cast iron. These materials do not pose the health risks associated with lead. Identification can vary by material, such as the reddish color of copper or the hardness of steel. No replacement is necessary unless damage or other infrastructure concerns arise. Want more information? Call Green Bay Water at 920-448-3480.

GALVANIZED REQUIRING REPLACEMENT (GRR). Properties labeled as "Galvanized Requiring Replacement” or GRR have services lines that, while not made of lead, have previously been located downstream of a lead service line. If galvanized pipes were once connected to a lead service pipe, there is a risk that lead particles may have accumulated in the customer’s galvanized pipe that is serving the building, which can leach into the water. Lead can leach into drinking water, posing health risks such as neurological damage and developmental delays, especially in children and pregnant women. CLICK HERE FOR HEALTH EFFECTS. GRR service lines must be removed. Property owners may qualify for municipal programs aimed at replacing lead and GRR pipes at reduced or no cost. LEAD. Properties labeled as "Lead" have a water service line made from lead. These are typically older lines installed before modern regulations. Lead can leach into drinking water, posing health risks such as neurological damage and developmental delays, especially in children and pregnant women. CLICK HERE FOR HEALTH EFFECTS. Lead service lines must be removed. Property owners may qualify for limited-time municipal programs aimed at replacing lead and GRR pipes at no cost to the owner. UNKNOWN. Properties labeled as "Unknown" have water service lines whose material compositions have not been identified. The potential health risks depend on the actual material, and further investigation is required to determine the material type. If lead or galvanized piping once connected to lead is found, replacement will be required due to health effects. CLICK HERE FOR HEALTH EFFECTS.
