New Water Rates Effective August 1, 2024
We want to inform our customers about an important update regarding water service rates. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) has approved new rates for Green Bay Water Utility, which will take effect on August 1, 2024.
Why the Increase?
This rate adjustment is necessary to support critical infrastructure and maintenance of our water system. It also helps recover costs incurred since our last rate increase four years ago. These investments are essential to ensure that we continue to provide safe, reliable tap water to over 100,000 residents.
What Will Change?
For the average residential customer with a 5/8” or 3/4” meter, the new rates will result in a quarterly charge increase of about $12. Importantly, our water will still cost less than a penny per gallon.
Key Points:
Effective Date: August 1, 2024
Last Rate Increase: June 1, 2020
Average Increase: Approximately $12 per quarterly bill for the average residential customer
Applies To: Drinking water consumption only (this does not affect sewer or stormwater charges)
Additional Information: Detailed rates are available here.
How Does This Affect My Bill?
Green Bay customers currently pay a fixed quarterly fee, a fire protection charge and a volumetric charge for water. The new rates will only apply to the drinking water portion of your bill.
Committed to Transparency
Green Bay Water Utility operates entirely on the revenue generated from rates, without any tax dollars. All rates are set through the PSCW’s transparent, public process, ensuring rigorous legal review. We are committed to maintaining transparency and ensuring that our customers understand the necessity of these changes. If you have any questions or require further details, please contact our customer service team at 920-448-3480.
